Flint River Green 2023-24 Registration is Open!

GREEN program registration invitation 2023-2024 

 

Below is the link to GREEN program registration. Early registration is critical to ensure we have enough supplies on hand for your school. Please register as soon as possible for the 2023-2024 school year. If you register by December 23, 2023. You will have the opportunity for Darren Bagley to come to your class for a day and teach all of your sections. The activities will include:

  • Groundwater Flow Model demonstration
  • Soil permeability tubes
  • Hazardous materials handling Tyvek suit demonstration

GREEN is a free citizen science water quality monitoring program offered to all 6th – 12th grade students in the Flint River watershed. It is made possible through a number of partners including the Genesee County Drain Commission, General Motors, the MiSTEM Network, the GISD, MSUE, UM Flint’s GLSI hub Discovering PLACE, and many other supporters.

 

Green provides: 

A 3-5 hour asynchronous online training module describing program logistics. Completion is required for participation in the program. 

  • LaMotte Chemistry Sampling kits (approx 1 set per 30 students)
  • An expert mentor to present to your class and assist with testing and analysis at a nearby stream or in the schoolyard
  • An invitation to attend the Student Summit in late May for students to present their findings and attend breakout sessions as in a professional conference 
  • Access to GREEN and Bridges teacher resources on the GREEN website
  • Potential mini-grant funding for student projects

Deadline to register for fall testing: Sep 18, 2023

Fall testing window: Oct 2, 2023–October 20, 2023

All supplies and data due back to FRWC office: No later than November 3, 2023

 

Deadline to register for spring: January 26, 2024

GREEN Professional Development February 6, 2024, 9-3pm

Face-to-face water quality testing refresher and mentor meetup: March 5, 2024, 4-6:30pm

Spring supplies delivered at testing refresher or no later than March 11, 2024.

Spring Testing Window: April 15-May 6, 2024 (Strict)

GREEN Student Summit will be in late May 2024 TBD

All supplies and data due back to FRWC office: No later than June 7, 2024
